You’re a musician and/or a passionnate youth worker or trainer? You'd love to share music tools and animate workshops with refugees, european artists and youth animators? Play, compose and record music with european artists?
Every year since 2014, the association Her Yerde Sanat hosts a music workshop and residency in Mardin. Mardin is situated in southeastern Turkey, a Kurdish region where the political climate is tense, to say the least. In Mardin, 44% of the population is under the age of 24 years. The lack of cultural and artistic offer prevents young people from the region to develop their creativity or access ideas and worldviews different from their own. Organizing an international music event in Mardin provides new opportunities for the youth of the surrounding communities and the growing number of refugees living in and around the city.
Music is a universal and intuitive language, allowing intercultural communication, feeding positive awareness, curiosity and dialogue between strangers. Our event allows local and international musicians, youth workers and trainers, to meet and share each other music as a tool for social intervention, especially with refugees and minorities facing language obstacles.
During 10 days, participants will have the chance to develop and animate music workshops with young refugees, create musical compositions with them and perform them in the city of Mardin. This process will help them sharing and developping methods, tools and exercizes using music to work with youth at risk.
