The University of Sheffield AMRC builds on the success of the original Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing, creating a cluster of industry-focused manufacturing R&D centres and supporting facilities. The AMRC with Boeing, established in 2001, has grown to become a world-leading centre of advanced machining and materials research for aerospace and other high-value sectors. It has around 70 industrial members, from global giants such as Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, to local small businesses. Cluster members include the AMRC with Boeing, Nuclear AMRC, the AMRC Design Prototyping and Testing, Training and Knowledge Transfer Centres; Castings Technology International (CTI); the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC); Medical AMRC and Factory 2050. The AMRC with Boeing and Nuclear AMRC are part of the UK High Value Manufacturing Catapult. The AMRC with Boeing specialises in advanced machining, materials and manufacturing research. It has more than 80 industrial partners, including global giants such as Boeing, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Airbus as well as small businesses, and is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
The advertised roles will be fixed term 12-month internship posts suitable for students seeking a year in industry as part of their studies. Three posts are available, both delivering strategically important projects with the following titles:
• High Strain Rate Data for Machining Simulations
• Intelligent Workbench
• New Alloy Characterisation
