Google, in partnership with National Geographic, LEGO, Scientific American, Virgin Galactic and the Educator Organisations, has launched the Google Science Fair 2016, an online science competition seeking curious minds from the four corners of the globe.
Young scientists, from 13 to 18 years old, all over the world, are invited to join the fair and submit interesting, creative projects that are relevant to the world today.
They can compete on their own or in a team of up to three persons.
Entrants can submit projects in any one of the following categories:
- Flora & Fauna
- Food Science
- Earth & Environmental Sciences
- Inventions & Innovation
- Electricity & Electronics
- Robotics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Behavioral & Social Sciences
- Energy & Space
- Astrophysics
- Computer Science & Math
Who can apply
Competition is open to individuals born between 21 February 1997 and 17 May 2003 (inclusive). No individual can register for or enter the Competition until they turn 13
- Netherlands' applicants that must be born between 21 February 1997 and 17 February 2000 (inclusive). No individual from the Netherlands can sign up for the Competition until they turn 16.
- Applicants from Spain, South Korea and Israel must be born between 21 February 1997 and 17 May 2002 (inclusive). No individual from these countries can sign up for the Competition until they turn 14.
All entrants who are not full of age must have their parent’s or legal guardian’s permission to enter the competition.
Prizes
• The Grand Prize Winner will receive for a total of US$50,000 in scholarship funding:
1. The Scientific American Innovator award
2. The National Geographic Explorer Award;
3. The LEGO Education Builder Award;
4. The Virgin Galactic Pioneer Award;
5. The Community Impact Awards;
6. The Inspiring Educator Award
7. Google Technologist Award.
