The BHF Centre of Research Excellence (BHF CRE) supports Intermediate and Senior Transition Fellows with either a basic science or clinical background.
For both levels of fellowship, the applicants can be either basic scientists or clinicians, and should have an outstanding track record of research. The purpose of the transition fellowships is to position Early Career Researchers ready to secure external funding opportunities, and to foster and develop future leaders in cardiovascular research.

Entry requirements and track record for Intermediate Transition Fellowships
- Basic scientists will typically have 2 - 6 years successful postdoctoral work and first author high impact research papers.
- Clinician scientists will have completed a PhD and will typically have completed 2 years specialist training (with an NTN) and are expected to have published first author high impact research papers.
Entry requirements and track record for Senior Transition Fellowships
- Basic scientists would be expected to have 4 - 8 years of successful postdoctoral work, an established track record of research leadership and are likely to have held an Intermediate Fellowship.
- Clinicians would be expected to have 2 - 4 years of successful postdoctoral work with CCT and are likely to have held an Intermediate Fellowship or a Clinical Lectureship.
