14 PhD Positions, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany (2016)

The Research Training Group "ProMoAge: Protein Modification: A Key Mechanism for Ageing" (RTG 2155) funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) welcomes applications for 14 PhD positions (salary according to public service salary scale TV-L E13, 65 %) for a three-year structured program. Start of the program will be July 1, 2016. The RTG is based at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Age Research – Fritz Lipmann Institute, Jena, Germany. We invite highly motivated and outstanding young scientists holding a Master or Diploma degree or graduating in 2016 to apply.

A group of internationally renowned researchers provides unique opportunities to develop scientific careers in a vibrant scientific environment. The exceptional research idea of ProMoAge is that posttranslational modifications (PTMs) of cellular proteins act as key players in age progression. This challenging and interdisciplinary research field covers the following subtopics:

- the molecular enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms of PTMs during ageing

- the modulation of epigenetic and transcriptional processes by PTMs

- the regulation of ageing-relevant cellular signaling cascades by PTMs

Requirements
Excellent master degree (or equivalent) in biogerontology, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, biophysics, and related areas.
