The Tilburg School of public Governance (TSG) is currently established at the nexus of Economics, Law, and Public Administration. As a joint initiative of TLS and TiSEM, TSG encompasses both research and education. In the fall semester of 2016, a renewed Master’s program on Public Governance starts with a focus on public strategy and civic entrepreneurship. The interdisciplinary research program will be further developed in collaboration with the new Faculty.
TSG has been established with a threefold ambition. First, the School aspires to contribute to the design and study of effective responses to complex governance challenges such as migration, sustainability, organized crime, and tax evasion. For example, what institutions, leadership, and policies are required in order to tackle these governance challenges? Second, the School’s research focuses on institutional innovation in public organizations. For example, what innovations are initiated by authorities and governments in order to respond effectively to the continuous flood of institutional crises? What theories explain the success and failure of these strategies? Third, TSG aims to improve public sector practices, and the quality and performance of public governance. For example, how is civic entrepreneurship accommodated and connected with the performance of public organizations? TSG will develop knowledge on these key questions in close collaboration with government and governance practices, both in and outside the Netherlands.
In five years from now, the new School expects to become a leading institute in Europe on institutional innovation in governance and government. We will attract scholars from Economics, Law and Public Administration who share these ambitions, and who want join the new Tilburg School of public Governance.
