The VIB-UGent Medical Biotechnology Center groups 7 laboratories and 120 researchers with a strong focus on innovating the analysis and engineering of biomolecular systems, to investigate and alleviate human disease. We are developing tomorrow's technologies for biomedical research, molecular diagnostics and therapeutics.
For 2016, the VIB-UGent Medical Biotechnology Center recruits excellent candidate PhD students for the following projects in the context of the IWT/FWO competition for PhD fellowships:
- Development and clinical validation of novel glycomics-based molecular biomarkers for chronic inflammation and cancer. Contact: Prof. Dr. Nico Callewaert
- Next-generation biotechnology for massively parallel assessment of recombinant protein expressability. Contact: Prof. Dr. Nico Callewaert
- Profiling ubiquitin-like modifications during infection by novel mass spectrometry-based approaches. Contact: Dr. Francis Impens
- Use of a viral trap strategy to study protein complexes in antiviral and inflammation pathways. Contact: Prof. Dr. Sven Eyckerman
- Site-specific monovalent protein labelling using bacterial Leu/Phe-transferases. Contact: Prof. Dr. Kris Gevaert
