The University of South Wales (USW) is delighted to invite applications for three fully-funded PhD scholarships within the Crime, Justice and Society (CJS) Research Institute. The CJS Research Institute is one of six Research Institutes at USW that were established to create a positive impact on research focus, research sustainability and reputation for research (see http://research.southwales.ac.uk/RIatUSW/ for further details).
The CJS Research Institute includes members from the allied disciplines of Criminology, Law, Police Sciences, Psychology and Social Policy. To date, members of the CJS Research Institute have collaborated extensively with business and government, as well as public and third sector organisations, both nationally and internationally.
Much of the research undertaken is applied research that has had an important impact on society. The results of the REF 2014 in relation to the Social Work and Social Policy Unit of Assessment (which includes Criminology and Police Sciences) are a testimony to this: 80% of the research impact was rated as world-leading (4*), which ranked us eight in the UK and top in Wales.
These scholarships represent a significant investment in the next generation of social science scholars and research, and are integral to the University’s planning for the next REF exercise.
This call is open to scholars with research interests in the areas specified below and we welcome applicants employing a range of methods and (inter)disciplinary approaches.
