Development Writer and U.S. Development Associate at American Farm School in Thessaloniki

Position: Development Writer and U.S. Development Associate

Reports to: Manager of Advancement Communications, Institutional Advancement Office

Job Description: The Development Writer creates compelling, succinct copy that inspires philanthropic support for the American Farm School. Serving a variety of clients, the development writer will produce – in English – the annual Sower & electronic newsletters for a U.S. audience, funding proposals, fundraising project summaries, stewardship reports, U.S. media and website news stories, the Annual Report, President’s periodic letter to the Board, website communications, event materials, video scripts, other marketing materials for internal and external audience, and project summaries for a diverse array of fundraising goals. The development writer will collaborate with other members of the School’s Advancement team as well as other AFS staff. Other areas of responsibility include rresearching and identifying other U.S. sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new funding proposals based on guidelines and interests, and helping to maintain communication ties with individual, foundation and corporate donors and prospects in the U.S.

The Institutional Advancement division works to secure philanthropic support the AFS educational programs. The School has embarked on a new philanthropic effort (Comprehensive Campaign) of $25 million. The Development Writer and U.S. Development Association will be a member of the Comprehensive Campaign team.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum level of education: Bachelor's degree from U.S. university
Proven and superior writing, editing and proofreading skills in English
Professional experience requiring English language writing required, preferably in a U.S. setting. Development writing experience and familiarity with fundraising preferred. Professional experience in academic setting a plus.
Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and compose clear and persuasive prose for effective presentation in publications, web sites, ppt. and other media
Ability to manage complex tasks simultaneously, coordinate the roles of various participants in projects, set priorities and schedules, and meet deadlines with a minimum of supervision
Ability to generate ideas, identify problems and propose solutions
Intellectual vitality, wide-ranging curiosity, and an appreciation of the academic enterprise
Working knowledge of Greek
Leadership, self-direction, initiative and problem-solving ability

Other:
Professional expertise with databases and aptitude to master Raisers Edge fundraising software
Professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated knowledge of business correspondence, marketing materials and reports
