There are multiple open PhD positions at the University of Connecticut in the general area of geometrical and physical modeling, with a bias towards fundamental aspects.
Our research tackles different geometry-heavy problems across multiple disciplines, from gesture based computer interfaces and virtual reality, to fundamental geometric modeling algorithms, geometric reasoning and processing, haptics, the design of (protein-based) nanomachines and robotics.
Research assistantships are available to exceptional students who have strong mathematical and computational background. Successful candidates will have the option of completing the PhD in either Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science. The stipends are competitive, based on experience, and start at $27K USD per calendar year.
The ideal PhD student will have:
- a Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, OR significant research experience;
- strong programming and mathematical skills, and
- outstanding written and oral communication skills.
Research exposure to the general areas of geometrical and physical modeling is a plus.
