In the framework of the European Development Days 2015, the European Commission has launched the Future Leaders Programme.
Young leaders playing an active role in the fight against poverty or involved in innovative projects to address global challenges in their community are invited to apply for the Programme and get the chance to win an invitation to the 2015 edition of European Development Days (EDD15), taking place in Brussels, Belgium on 3-4 June.
Selected Future Leaders will speak in the auditorium panel discussions, along with key political leaders, and have the opportunity to present their story to the audience, engaging with the delegations of governments and international organisations. Prior and during the forum, they will also have the opportunity to visit the EU institutions, meet relevant development policy-makers and present practices from their regions.
Eligible applicants
- young people from 21 to 26 years of age from all around the world, with proven commitment and community engagement,
- able to speak clearly and comprehensively one of following languages: English, French, Spanish, German or Portuguese.
How to apply
Applicants will have to:
- submit a Curriculum Vitae detailing their skills, with special emphasis on leadership and public speaking skills;
- present themselves and their engagement in a short 2 minutes video and explain why they could be a good representative for their chosen topic;
- state which group or organisation they will be representing during EDD15;
- submit an additional reference letter from someone testifying that they are qualified leaders;
- submit up to two examples of active commitment to a cause related to their topic of choice, for example: building a project, conducting research, or volunteering for a cause related to the topic of their choice;
- include key achievements, a project background description, a description of their role in the project, outlining leadership skills, commitment to the relevant topic, and future plans or ambitions in the field of the chosen topic.
- upload up to supporting 3 files for each project.

- Sustainable Energy and Innovation,
- The Challenges of an Urban World,
- Gender Rights,
- Right to Health,
- Inclusion and Inequality,
- Feeding the Planet,
- Fair Globalisation,
- Migration and security,
- The responsibility of the private sector,
- Right to Decent Work,
- Global citizenship: each individual as actor in development.
Applications must be submitted in one of the following official European Commission languages: English, French, Spanish, German and Portuguese.
