At the University of Amsterdam we have vacancies for six PhD positions and four Postdoctoral researchers in Sociology, affiliated with the AISSR research group Institutions, Inequalities and Life Courses (IIL) and the Amsterdam Centre for Inequality Studies (AMCIS).

Tasks for PhD candidates:
- Conduct advanced quantitative empirical-theoretical research;
- write and complete an article-based PhD dissertation within the allocated time (3 or 4 years);
- publish research papers in collaboration with advisors;
- participate in the AISSR PhD programme;
- 10% teaching upon availability;
- participation in conferences, workshops, seminars and other scholarly activities.
Tasks for Postdoctoral researchers:
- Conduct advanced quantitative empirical-theoretical research;
- publish research papers in collaboration with advisors;
- work on other forms of output that are part of the funded research projects;
- 20% teaching upon availability;
- participation in conferences, workshops, seminars and other scholarly activities;
- write a NWO-VENI proposal or other, similar research grant proposals.
Requirements
All candidates should have the following credentials:
- a completed MA/MSc. degree in Sociology, preferably a Research master in sociology, social science, or a closely related discipline;
- a strong record in quantitative research methods, demonstrated by high grades for courses in the research master (applicants for PhD positions) and published research papers in academic journals (applicants for postdoc positions);
- excellent written and spoken English;
- ability and interest to work in a team;
- motivation to teach.
Postdoctoral researchers have, in addition, completed a PhD in sociology or a related discipline, or will submit their PhD to their committee before the start of the project.
