Computerized decision support systems (CDSSs) are information technology-based software that provide health professionals with actionable, patient-specific recommendations or guidelines for disease diagnosis, treatment, and management at the point-of-care. These messages are intelligently filtered to enhance the health and clinical care of patients. CDSSs may be integrated with patient electronic health records (EHRs) and evidence-based knowledge.
The project centers around the creation of a multidisciplinary breast/lung/prostate oncology-dashboard, using this filtering software to present the useful multidisciplinary information in one glance and offering guidance in subsequent treatment decisions. The phase of the disease episode, the physician and the patient will also influence the necessity of information. Defining the necessary information at each step, to prevent the overload of information is a challenge. And moreover, is the information presented useful, used and to what extend does it add to the decision process.
The general idea of the project is, based on patient and physician based feedback loops, and carefully curated patient data sets, with high quality annotations, made according to the detailed requirements of the software tools that will be concurrently developed by the project partners during the collaboration. This is a multi-disciplinary project, embedded in the department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, together with Urology, Medical Oncology and Pulmonology. Partners in the project include Siemens Healthineers, Fraunhofer MEVIS and several other topclinical hospitals around the World.
We are looking for three candidates MDs (Medicine or Technical medicine) to join our team to spend three years on development of Clinical Decision Support applications for the respective Breast-, Lung- and Prostate cancer pathways. MDs applying for this job and wishing to become radiologist can also be evaluated for a position as a resident at the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine after this research period of three years.
Tasks and responsibilities
Task include: monitoring of multidisciplinary team meetings to document influencing factors and provide input for the technical partners developing the system. Actual implementation of the (prototypes of) the developed clinical decision support system, and validation of their use. Data analysis and reporting in scientific journals, finishing with a PhD thesis.
