The course is designed to help participants strengthen their understanding of sustainable agriculture, including socioeconomic considerations, impact on world poverty and hunger, and effects on farming communities and biodiversity. It introduces key concepts in land and resource management, quality and safety in food and agricultural products, organic farming, the risks and benefits of biotechnology, rural development, food security and environmental sustainability. Case studies and examples focus on climate-smart agricultural development and on ways of achieving an efficient and safe world food and agriculture framework that is equitable and respects biodiversity and the continuity of bios.
The course will run from April 16 to July 1, 2015. As is the case with all courses in the B.I.O. eLearning program, it is offered completely free of charge.
