Training Course: "Roma Community Leaders"
10-18 February 2020 | Berlin , Germany
The problem is confounded by the fact that many Roma marginalized young people express suspicion, even hostility, towards the involvement of professionals in their lives. The problem of social exclusion is usually tied to the problem of equal opportunities, as some groups of people tend to be more subjected to exclusion than others. Roma youth in most of European countries are among such vulnerable groups. This is why youth work is so important. Its often voluntary and community-based nature means that youth workers and youth organizations have a better chance than most to make contact and build trusting relationships with young people on the margins of society. This implies that when young people work, organize, socialize and educate together, they can instigate change by taking charge of change and by changing themselves.
