The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Atmospheric Chemistry – Climate Modelling position. The successful candidate will be working at EEWRC where she/he will contribute to research on atmospheric chemistry and climate change in the eastern Mediterranean region. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development and use of regional and/or high-resolution global models. The aim is to help analyse in situ and remote sensing measurements and investigate atmospheric composition, including airborne desert dust, possible trends and impacts on air quality and climate.
Responsibilities
- The successful candidate, in establishing a high-performance computing environment for atmospheric chemistry-climate models, will participate in the following:
- Development, testing and improvement of models
- Evaluating model output based on observational datasets of climate variables
- Assisting in the regional networking and coordination activities of the research group
- Disseminating the research findings in scientific and public fora
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in Atmospheric or Environmental Sciences or equivalent
- Up to two (2) years of previous relevant experience
- Publications in scientific journals
- Presentations in scientific conferences and general audiences
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Experience in atmospheric chemistry modelling and the use of high-performance computing infrastructure
- Experience in computer programming (Fortran)
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage
