The Pervasive Systems research group of University of Twente is seeking qualified candidates for 3 PhD positions in the area of distributed sensor data analytics. These 3 PhD positions are embedded in three national projects, namely, COPAS, DCTrain, and Wildlife Monitoring.
- COPAS - The aim of the COPAS project is to design an energy management strategy for open spaces based on analysis of activities and profiles of visitors. Sensor data will be used to determine mobility and behavioral patterns of people.
- DCTrain - The DCTrain project is centered around the theme of predictive maintenance for trains and rail roads. For doing so, data from various high-end and low-end sensors monitoring the train itself and the rails need to be analyzed and methods need to be developed to enable the sensor nodes to identify and detect any defect in real-time and autonomously.
- Animal Monitoring – This project aims to study and analyze mobility and behavioral patterns of animal data and identify action/reaction and interaction patterns between animals. Data collected by sensors attached to animals as well as installed in the environment will be used for such analysis.
The PhD candidates are expected to be active in the following areas:
- Big data and sensor data analytics, and distributed sensing and signal processing.
Requirements
You have a master-degree in computer science. You have knowledge of data analytics, machine learning, pattern recognition, and classification and preferable are familiar with distributed embedded systems and wireless sensor networks. Have previous experience with programming of embedded devices and building real-world sensing systems is considered as a positive point. We expect the candidate to have an excellent command of English language as well as presentation skills.
Information and application
Candidates are invited to submit their application, including a detailed CV, clearly stated their expertise, research interest, transcripts, list of publications, and names of two references. The vacancy will be open until a suitable candidate is selected.
